A Request...

Does anyone have any good book recommendations? I would really like to read some more Nabokov, but the American Book Center (just about the only place with a good selection of print in English) only has Lolita which I've already read. I'm a little sad that all of my books are in storage near Park Rapids, Minnesota which renders them somewhat inaccessable to say the least.

Read Pale Fire next, then Ada, then Pnin. These (along with Lolita) are the "big four."

Ah, my Jugger friend! What an incredibly large, and therefore by definition, "totally you", question you've posed. I cannot comment on any further Nabokov titles, but a few good yarns that I would recommend are:

--"Next of Kin", by Roger Fouts. Explains the incredible journey that he had actually conversing w/chimpanzees.

--"Freakonomics", Steven D. Levitt. A darn fast, and extremely entertaining, read.

--Timothy Zahn's "Star Wars" Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command). As a SW fan, these are not to be missed.

--"Naked Came the Sasquatch", John Boston. Quite possibly one of the finest, and funniest, novels I have ever read. Wry, witty, rich, and utterly unique.

--Anything by Elmore Leonard.

--"Beowulf", tranlsated by Seamus Heaney. 'Nuff said.

--"Reefer Madness", Eric Schlosser, who is of the "Fast Food Nation" fame. Fascinating, and more than infuriating.

--"High and Mighty: The Dangerous Rise of the SUV", Keith Bradsher.

--"The Pleasure of my Company", Steve Martin (yes, THE Steve Martin). A wonderful, tasteful treat.

--Any cool comics you can get your hands on.

Enjoy!

I recently finished "Radical Evolution" by Joel Garreau and can't say enough about it. I was going to write that if you were interested in communication and sociology, it's bound to hook you--but who isn't interested in communication and sociology? In any case, it's great science/tech reading that non-scientists such as myself can dig.

co- I think I've read "Next of Kin" but I'll have a look for some of those other titles here too.

autumn- thanks for your comments, I do geek out over sociology and communication. Now if only I could translate those interests into something useful....
