Good Read

Just finished "One Hundred Years of Solitude," by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Absolutely brilliant! So good in fact that I'm following it up with his "Love in the Time of Cholera." A bit existential thematically, it remided me of Tolstoy's "War and Peace" with it's chronical of the rise and fall of a notable family. If you love great prose and richly detailed imagery than I suggest you check it out.

Well Pepe, I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying moderate dookies and not extreme or excessive ones. I think the one thing that may prevent people getting into this novel is the names of the characters, which span several generations (at least 4 I think) and are often named after their elders. But overall I think that the richness of prose and detailed descriptions of various forces influencing this family's life are moving and fraught with tensions. I do hope you continue.
